You Got Me Blushing ~ Springtime Beauty Purchase

Hello Gorgeous Gals,

Ah blush, such a favorite spring  beauty item and a fantastic way to perk up  ‘tired of winter’ complexions. With so many brands, shades and finishes to choose from where does a girl begin? Do you want a ‘pow’ of color, barely there, shimmer, matte, powder, cream…goodness, see what I mean? Find a picture in a magazine of a gal wearing a cheek shade you like, bring it to the store. This picture will help them to visualize along with you, while working specifically with your features and skin-tone.

Now be sure to stay open minded…as formulas and tools play a big part in the result. (back of the hand test is never a true representation of any makeup item) Try it while in store, the staff can show you a trick or two and the right tool to make it work just for you.  Above all else; remember it’s only makeup, have fun!

A few of my fave formulas:

#1 ELF Bronzer Blush Duo ($3US) a dupe of NARS Orgasm/Laguna duo

Oh so pretty tropical brights Cargo Cosmetics ($26CAD) (shown in Rome @ ebeauty.ca)

NARS Cream Blush (Cactus Flower shown, a personal fave. $34CAD Sephora, The Bay, Murale)

Illamasqua Cream Blushes  Obsessed with the whole  line!  Thx to my friend & fellow MUA Diana in the UK for shipping these babies over. At select Sephora stores in the US (not in Canada)

BECCA Lip & Cheek Creme (entire brand is so beautiful, LOVE) $33CAD @ ebeauty.ca

Revlon Matte Blush (approx $10CAD) Barely there color, perfect w/smoky eye & nude lip

A little goes a long way… $29CAD @ Sephora

Blush is a such great way to perk up the complexion for any season.

What’s your fave blush brand and shade?

Ciao Bellas,

Until Next Time ~Melody xo

BB Creams ~ The Beauty Industry’s New Must Have (pt 1)

OK ladies, if you thought tinted moisturizers were the bomb then look out because here come the next wave of the beauty industry’s must-have item The Beauty Balm or Blemish Balm affectionately called BB creams. I think it’s at the very least a must try item see the secret below…Ahem…I own 3 tubes. (Clicking a picture will take you to find more info)

Garnier's Miracle Skin Perfector - $21 CAD 75ml Find at Shoppers Drug Mart. I have this one in med/dark. I like the texture, hydration and the radiance it gives.

So the story goes that BB Creams came from German dermatologists that used them for healing skin after laser skin surgery because of the soothing and skin-regenerating properties of the formulas. Then South Asian actresses loved the formula and well gals, we know that a good beauty innovation is hard to keep quiet. They’ve have finally made their way onto European and North American shelves.  These darlings are multi-tasking formulas that are a cross between skincare and makeup, an all over face product that is simple to use. Wonderful for all ages. Perfect for teens starting to wear makeup, women who have shied from foundations in the past and of course all the busy gals. Superb to lighten up your makeup bag for travel as well.

BB creams can take the place of several items in your beauty routine at a fraction of the price and time used to apply all the others. Some are the same shade as regular moisturizers, while others have a tint, with some brands going a step further and making several shade ranges for a variety of skin tones.  They are lovely textures, can contain a blend of several active ingredients and nutrients in a blend of everything from anti-aging, vitamins, SPF, moisturizer/hydrators, oil absorbers, anti-shine, light reflecting mineral pigments and the list goes on.

Too Faced Tinted Beauty Balm SPF 20 $42CAD 45ml @ Sephora. I love their concealer and was excited to try this..I now own 2 shades!!

How to shop for a BB cream – shop them the same way you shop for your skincare. Based on your skin type, what your skin needs now, this may change from season to season.  What skincare functions do you want/need: anti-aging, SPF, oil absorbing, firming, moisturizing etc. Do you want it with color? What is the skin finish: matte, semi matte, satin, radiant or dewy. (so far the ones that I have tried cover more than a tinted moisturizer but less than a foundation) What is your budget? Prices vary, I’ve seen $20 to $60+. All these questions help narrow down brands and formulas. (Over the next few months you’ll find even more leading brands creating their own versions)

SECRET: I often shop at Sephora, as after finding a product(s) someone will make up to 3 samples for you so that you can actually try before you buy.  Just ask nicely and don’t get greedy ; )  Some of the items that have an SPF in their description online may have it covered up on their packaging here in Canada.

Smashbox BB Cream SPF 35 $50CAD 30ml Exclusive to Sephora. 4 shades. I tried this as a sample first and glad I did, loved the texture and satin finish, however it absorbs oil well and I'm dehydrated now so it will be better for me in the hotter months.

Boscia BB Cream SPF 27 - $46 CAD 50g This is in the category of 'Blemish Balm' Has a slight tint, oil-free. Popular brand for all it doesn't contain like parabens, petrochemicals etc.

Next: How to get a 5 minute or less makeup look using a BB Cream and no tools…OK, yes your fingers count as tools for this one ; )

5 Minutes or Less Makeup ~ BB Creams pt 2 (and No Tools)

Ok Gals, here is a 5 minute or less makeup application.

We learned about BB Creams. So let’ see how to get great results from yours. Here is a BB application trick generously shared by Tamara at Sephora Bayshore – Ottawa. What? You thought I knew everything?! LOL

Step 1- On freshly cleansed skin we are going to apply your BB cream. Put down the brush and the sponge. The best finished result will be from a tapping/patting motion with your fingers. Apply about a pea sized amount of BB cream to your middle fingers, then dot it on your skin (left and right side at the same time) Following the shape of an E (E would be backwards on other side of face). Temples -outer forehead, cheeks from about the ear area inwards, then just above jaw line. I also tap a bit on the center of the face. Now tap your fingers to ‘fill in’ the rest of the face. Don’t powder!

Anastasia Beverly Hill's Tinted brow gel $27CAD @ Sephora. Love the ease and the color selection plus the benefits it gives the brows.

Step 2-The brows. A little bit of attention to these babies is all they need, even if you don’t have all the tools and tricks or even a steady hand. Make it super easy with Anastasia Beverly Hill’s tinted brow cream/gel. It comes in hair color shades, and combs, places hairs into place with a slight tint to give them just that little extra somethin’  somethin’  if you can apply mascara you can do this. Now you have a gentle and pretty frame for you eyes..they are as they say the nirrors to your soul, might as well give them  good frame!

Buxom Mascara - $24CAD at Sephora. Volumizing. Play up those lashes if you aren't wearing anything else on the eyes. Super flirty ; )

Step 3 -Eyes, sometimes the idea of what color shadow & liner to use and where to put it can be a mystery, but you know if you don’t do something to them you’ll look like you haven’t slept in a week. Let’s wake them up and look a tad brighter without going overboard.mascara. THE most requested item a women would want if she were stranded on a dessert island. A coat or 2 on top will do the trick. If you have a good set of lashes on the bottom, a very delicate coat can be worn.

Becca Cosmetics Lip & Cheek Creme $29US. 4 shades. No shimmer, great pigment. Blendable. Absolutely love this line, from foundations to color, its all about you...Glowing.

Step 4 -Cheeks. Your BB cream has you glowing, now we can add a bit of a flush the way Mother Nature would. Let’s go for some color but keep it sheer, like a youthful flush from within. I love another multi tasker like Becca’s Lip and Cheek  Creme. A burst of color that still allows the skin to peek through. Becca Cosmetics makes some of my fave versions! Remember when we didn’t powder after the BB cream? That’s because the Becca lip/cheek creme glides better on the BB cream not powder. (Becca can also be found at www.ebeauty.ca)

Step 5 -Lips, take the guess work out of what color matches my blush (The 2 should always be in the same color family but can be in varying tones ex: orange, peach, coral) No mistakes if we use the same lip/cheek creme we did on the lips. You can swipe up the color, tap on your lips. By using a taping/blending motion you can have a sheer color or add more to intensify the shade. Go bright cheeks, soft lips OR bright lips, hint of color on the cheeks. Both work!

*at this point you can dust a finishing powder over the face if you’d like .
