September may signal the ending of summer and I don’t really like saying good-bye to summer, however the plus side: the glossy pages from the September fashion mags, with great update ideas for both your wardrobe and beauty bag. Before adding in beauty trends, the basics should be in place, those simple items to help look your best daily and make it easy to add freshness/trends each season.
Complexion Enhancers, how I refer to the range of items that include primers, tinted moisturizers, BB creams, foundations liquid/mousse/powder, mineral powders, concealers etc. They all help improve the look of your complexion in some way. This is the area you should invest the most in with your time shopping for the best color and formula, tools, and attention to application. After all, this is the ‘foundation’ for the rest of the look and if it doesn’t look quite right here, it will affect the results of the rest of your makeup application.
Eyes: Not much is really needed to play them up. Brows: I use/suggest powders most often as they have a softer appearance and can be ‘worked’ easier to your liking from soft to dramatic. Eyeliner: A cream version has incredible versatility. Mascara: no need to spend $ here, keep in mind: Volume = fuller lashes and lengthening/separating = a natural, less full look.
Cheeks: Bronzer or blush? Both! Wear alone or layer over each other year round. Changing the order you layer does give a slightly different result. When layering, try keeping one a matte finish and the other can have shimmer.
Lips: I enjoy indulging in occasional lip luxury but it isn’t necessary! Neutral shades similar to your own lip color are great and go for your preference of gloss, balm or lipstick. TIP: the bolder/darker the shade more maintenance is needed.
Tools: There are great tools from all price ranges. I have an extra large assortment for work in all price ranges. For real life you don’t need many. A few of my faves: Beauty Blender for foundation application, Real Techniques brushes for price + quality, Make Up For Ever’s natural hair collection of eyeshadow brushes.
Take it to Go: Makeup should be fun and so should what you store/carry it in. Found these Pamela Barsky bags at the Chelsea Market in NYC when my gal Nicole showed them to me on a recent visit. You can get yours online from her etsy shop.
