Glowing Skin ~ get it instanly w/ Becca Cosmetics

Some days I NEED more luminous skin and I want it NOW!  Regardless of the causes for the lack of radiance (lack of sleep, weather, stress, illness, etc.) you can have pretty and glowing skin so easily these days.

Becca Shimmering skin perfectorMy all time fave way is the fabulous Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector. (I’m a huge fan of all Becca) It’s a sheer, lightweight  lotion that is loaded with radiance and gives an instant veil of elegant shimmer the moment it touches your skin. It also happens to be good for the skin too. It contains broad-spectrum SPF of 20+, anti-oxidants, hydration and more, all to keep skin looking fresh, youthful and healthy.

My everyday shade is Opal (seen left) a soft warm pink, but I have other shades as well. There is Topaz – a warm golden bronze, Pearl- white pearl, and I want the new Moonstone – a pale gold.

They can be used in several ways depending on the result you want, just play with them.

  • under my moisturizer as a hydrating serum
  • alone as a lightweight hydrator in the sweltering summer
  • mixed in moisturizer or liquid foundation
  • tap above cheeks, down the centre of the nose for a hi-lighter
  • add to body lotion or straight up any where on the body
  • and more.  Melody's glowing skin

What’s in my pro makeup kit? ~ Sneak a peek

Here’s what I was using behind the scenes this past weekend when working with Press the Fashion Magazine as they are shooting the Summer 2013 Edition.

These are just a few of the items found in my kit and are must haves.

  • Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentrè (24-Hour Miracle Cream), a pro artist fave moisturizer as it’s lightweight, hydrates well, works on everyone.
  •  H20 Oasis 24™ Hydrating Booster line has this amazing hydrating booster (oil free) it really is great on super dry/dehydrated skin. I layer under BTS photo 5Embryolisse on really dry skin. (a few drops can be added to foundation to thin out, change textures)
  • Carmex lip balm, 20+ yrs of love. I’ve tried others, this is still the best!  TIP: apply lip balm when you apply moisturizer, blot off excess when you get to lipstick stage.
  • Set the Stage Primer by Whip Hand Cosmetics, found via a recommendation by Kevin James Bennett (take his recommendations seriously, he knows his s#@*) This is a small and mighty pot o’ primer used before makeup. It fills in, smooths out and can mattify…it doesn’t dry out skin – I tried it on my dehydrated skin first ; )
  • Model in a Bottle – makeup setting spray. I’ve tried many but none works as great as this. I’ve seen it keep makeup application fresh looking and budge proof for12hrs+

After setting up my kit and before I start with each client it’s sanitize time. I much prefer to wipe away germs instead of using a gel while on set as I have to do it so often. Clean Well sanitizing wipes are amazing (alcohol free) and I love the scent of the thyme used in them. Great for sensitive skin and kids too.

If there is eyeshadow being used (most often is) then I use Shadow Shields to prevent any shadow fallout on the concealer/foundation under the eye.

BTS photo 4

I love to contour  to build great cheekbones and jawlines. This Real Techniques contour brush is my new super hero, love it!! It fits perfectly into the hollow under the cheekbone and isn’t to large (wide) over the jawline. (reviews coming soon)

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tars   100% Vegan & cruelty free  These are lip paints that can be mixed to create tons of new shades. So fun and long wearing too.

Time to bronze the models up for the pool scene. I sprayed Bourjois DÉLICE DE SOLEIL BRONZING POWDER SPRAY FOR FACE & BODY on 6 models head to toe, back to front.  Amazing soft bronze look, and delicate chocolate scent.

While I use these products professionally (and personally) they aren’t just for pro’s. All these items are available to shop for everyone! Enjoy : )

fresh Rose Hydrating Gel Cream ~ Review

Hello Gorgeous,

Last week I worked with a private client’s teen daughter and needed a gentle and lightweight moisturizer to address dehydration and for better makeup application when she wore it. While cruising the shelves at a Sephora, I came across the fresh Rose Hydrating Gel Cream.

FRESH Rose Hydrating Gel CreamFor a young teen with good skin, any skincare or makeup application should be kept minimal. I used this product as both her moisturizer and a prep for her makeup, taking advantage of the velvety texture of it to smoothly apply a sheer foundation.

What I thought: It smells delicate of rose. Looks rich and creamy, yet lightweight and velvety on the skin. I would suggest this to oily-combination skin types, skin types not requiring anti-aging, and when you just want something light in the summer. The brand claims it to “provide 24 hrs of significant moisture…”  (I don’t think any moisturizer feels like it’s working that long) Use 2x daily to see/feel best results. I liked the results as they met the requirements for my client.

{Travel, Packing your beauty bag for a sunny destination}

Hello Gorgeous,

So your heading down south for a bit are you? I’m envious, but wish you a safe and well deserved trip!  Here are some tips on what and how I pack my beauty bag for a southern destination:

beach

~ALWAYS check with the airline you are using for safety and carry-on regulations, nothing is worse than having to open up your carry-on to toss out half-filled bottles because the packaging size is over regulation.

~Carry-on with wheels. I carry-on most of my beauty items and a change of clothes (what if your luggage gets lost? ahhhhh!!)

~A big purse or tote (for magazines, makeup/skincare bag, iPod/pad, pair of sandals, sweater to keep warm on plane, gum etc.)

~Get a clear plastic makeup bag, you’ll always find what you need so much faster in the airport, on the plane, and in a small hotel bathroom. This one is about $6.97 and comes with 2 refillable bottles, small jar and sponge puff for the shower.

photo (6)

~Size down…use small refillable containers for your creams, lotions and potions. Found different sets at WalMart from $2-$4CAD.

~Toothpaste minis for the carry-on, but I use a full size toothbrush, those travel ones are crap.

~Go miniature with your makeup, with a palette like this one from Too Faced $29.00CAD  you have eye shadows, blush, bronzer and a lipgloss. You can go from beach to dinner to late night dancing!  BTW:  use a wet liner brush to make the dark shades into eyeliners.

Too Faced Glamour To Go

~Mascara, a full size isn’t that big.

~Travel size makeup brushes, I found these at Wal-Mart for about $9.99 CAD and they are not bad at all.

ONTHEGO_EYES_m

~I don’t wear foundation at the beach or pool, but I do want my skin to have a  polished look for going out. Look at this multi-tasking dr. brandt BB cream from Sephora. It self adjusts to your skin tone, perfect as it’ll change through your vacation. It gives hydration, anti-aging, and has a broad spectrum SPF 30.  Just so you know, on Canadian packaging it has a sticker over the SPF 30 on the tube ; )

dr. brandt BB Cream

~You don’t need a full size glass bottle of your fave fragrance, try one of the refillable atomizers. Find at Shoppers Drug Mart for about $12-$15 CAD

Travalo

~Suncare, I pack the full size bottles in checked luggage, can’t have too much SPF lotions! I love Clarins formulas

~Sunglasses, the ultimate ‘makeup’ accessory, always look good anytime and you can look like your sleeping to the chatty passenger beside you ; )

Ciao Bella, Have a Wonderful Trip!!!

Until Next Time,

~Melody xo

{Facial Oils ~’Stellar’ from Pelle Beauty

Hello Gorgeous,

I have a new product review for you…

Several weeks ago I was contacted by Pelle Beauty’s founder and creator, Marnie Cipriani, asking if I would try her newest product “Stellar” a facial concentrate.  After going back to her site to look at Stellar and other items (I do this with all brands before I agree or not to try products) plus the warm and friendly email exchanges from Marnie, it was an easy yes from me as I am a HUGE fan of facial oils and think everyone should have one in their beauty stash.

photo: www.pellebeauty.com

This product came at the perfect time for me because the indoor dry heat was making my skin crazy! I have normal-dehydrated skin during the winter months and this lightweight blend of essential oils gave me instant relief, felt great on the skin and absorbed quickly. I was left with a glow, a finishing result I look for in my skincare year round. Plus the scent reminds me of a sultry exotic location that I’d rather be in some days ; )

What I really like about ‘Stellar‘? It’s a blend of several essential oils, rather than just the current “it” ingredient filled bottle. This is quality and care,  it takes effort to create a blend so that each essential oil used complements the others and benefits the skin.

“High in essential fatty acids & antioxidants, Meadowfoam, Babassu & Black Current oils work together to hydrate and moisturize your complexion. Neroli & Sandalwood essential oils tone & rejuvenate all complexions. Stellar’s lush aroma is one you’ll swoon over as it will lift your spirits”

Only a few drops are required. Spread those luscious drops onto cleansed skin that is still damp, then let sit for a couple of minutes, then follow with fave products. ’Stellar’ is not a one step wonder, in fact it’s a multitasking gem, great for all skin types.

  • use on cuticles
  • the ends of your hair
  • alone as lightweight moisturizer
  • or add to fave moisturizer or liquid/cream foundations to boost it as the seasons change
  • a few drops with some foundation creates a tinted moisturizer
  • apply to skin before a clay mask, get the deep cleansing while minimizing the drying feeling following the mask.
  • add drops to your fave body lotion or after sun care to prevent peeling
  • more uses found on the site
  • vegan friendly, does not contain parabens or mineral oil

available in:   30ml dropper for $42.95CAN      60ml pump for $64.95CAD

Wish List~New Beauty Faves

Here are some new luscious online discoveries (plus some of my all time faves) that are absolutely “Want It,  Need It, Gotta Have It”  items just in time for your Holiday Wish List. I’ll be sharing them this morning on CTV Morning Live Ottawa…but if you are reading this, you have the first peek.

I’m a huge fan of online shopping, especially for beauty  products. You can almost shop the world and get global beauty delivered right to your door.

Laura Mercier Artist’s Palette $60CAD  “A palette of a dozen eye shadow colors, hand-selected by Laura Mercier, in shimmer and matte finishes”  I tried it out on a client recently and loved it so much for myself. I think it’s the best collection of elegant neutrals in great textures and it includes several matte shades that will have this collection working overtime for you. From work day to evenings out, you can mix and match as well as make some of the darker matte shades into eyeliners when you use a wet brush. This is a classic selection of shades and a palette that will be well used and loved.

BITE Beauty Bite Size Discovery Kit $29CAD “Bite is beauty for lips that’s good enough to eat. With highly pigmented, trend-forward color palettes, Bite’s hydrating formulas are infused with food-grade ingredients—so your lips feel as gorgeous as they look”  The colors in this discovery kit are super wearable for anyone, ranging in a nude, neutral daily wear shades to a party ready red, the texture is lovely and look how adorable these are. They’ll fit perfectly into any evening clutch, pocket or makeup bag.

Royal and Langnickel Makeup Brushes  (assorted prices, $US)  You just can’t have great makeup, you have to have great tools. Many of my go to brushes come from this manufacturer for both my pro kit and personal use.  They have amazing quality brushes and fab pricing (much better than your fave department store brand)  My personal faves are the Silk Pro  line as well as the new Revolution line created with Kevin James Bennett celebrity makeup artist. The prices are amazing however there is going to be some extra fees to get it to Canada. I still feel that I get more product and quality with my $ even shopping cross border.

Clarisonic Plus Face and Body Cleansing Brush $225US.  I L.O.V.E. my Clarisonic Mia facial cleansing brush, it does such an amazing  job on the look and feel of my skin. Better clean and better radiance with it.  Think it is time to indulge the rest of my skin and go for this dual version (separate brush heads for  face and body) Secret: Head to SpaBoutique (Canadian) and get it for $225 CAD plus they have additional offers so look for them before you place your order and get a great deal and it’s where I bought my first one.

Julep Nail Polishes (varied pricing, $US) “trend-setting toxin-free colors and products”  I’m just discovering these and  have to say what a great find, a superb quality nail polish with a great selection of shades to mix, match and play with. Plus they can be found in Sephora…you’ll also love that they are free of DBP, toluene, formaldehyde, and formaldehyde resin.

 Ciao, Until Next Time

$plurge or $ave ~ Cleansing Oils

Hello Gorgeous,

Cleansing oils, a one step wonder, a super-duper makeup remover, a______  ok, I’m done you get the idea.  A simple, great end of the day cleanser as it easily melts even waterproof and long wear makeup.  I find them to be non drying and gentle, as in no scrubbing at the skin because the product does the work.  Oh yes, I hear the cries “there is no way I’m putting that s*&! on my face…it’s sure to make me oilier/break me out”  Cleansing oils are designed to protect and preserve your natural skin lipids, without adding extra oil.  So read a little more, then you can still cry out say your bit in the comments below ; )   As always when it comes to beauty items it’s your choice and your wallet, so $plurge or $ave as you wish.

Pur Minerals Mineral Melt

     ($20 US 4oz  / $22 CAD 120ml)

Pur Minerals Mineral Melt

This was the first cleansing oil I tried and got me over the “ain’t putting that stuff on my face” trauma. Now there is always a cleansing oil in my rotation of cleansers.  I like the non-petroleum base and more real natural oils, but on the other hand there are parabens listed, a concern for many. It’s amazing how these work, once you add water to start rinsing it becomes milky and no longer oily to the touch. A secret: I did use a cleanser after for the first few times to ease myself into this method, now I only wipe down my face with a wet cloth when done (especially closer to eyes) so you get rid of any ‘oily’ feel.  A one ‘recipe’ for all, and often the essential oils are far more compatible with oilier skin types than you thought.

In Canada: select Shoppers Drug Mart / The Shopping Channel

Shu Uemura Cleansing Oils

from$31 US 5.07 oz to $90 US 15.2oz depending on the size or version)

shown ~ I purchased the ‘High Performance Balancing Cleansing Oil’ (5 other formulas available)

I have always heard about the Shu Uemura cleaning oils and wanted to try this luxury brand made in Japan  (omg! you should see their false lashes) Ok gotta be honest here, I did not pay full retail as I found it at a beauty warehouse sale and for only $14 CAD for 3.37 oz./100ml  a great excuse to say yes to the oil! It works just as well and in the same way as the above cleansing oil. I love that they also have super sized bottles to choose from, a pump dispenser, and several formulas for different needs. So there is one that can be used for oily skin. The version I choose (pictured) contains mineral oil which isn’t a fave of mine. I feel it’s more a filler oil and for the regular prices I’d prefer it not be in there, but that’s just me.  Glad I tried it and can now scratch this item off my beauty bucket list! : )  PS I can’t use any cleansing oil while I have lash extensions as it makes the glue/bond soft and the lashes don’t last as long.

In Canada: select Holt Renfrew locations

What item or brand is on your Beauty Bucket List?        What is your secret splurge or save item?

Ciao ~ Until Next time

Beauty Shopping ~ The Shopping Channel Picks

Hello Gorgeous Gals,

I know you are a beauty lover-gotta have it gal just like me. I shop all over the place from the high end department stores to the only store in town that offers up any form of beauty as well as on-line boutiques from North America and overseas.  I even have friends overseas in which we swap in order to get brands to our door that we couldn’t otherwise get our pretty polished nails into!! One place I still shop at is The Shopping Channel (Canada’s shopping network)  They must have known that I was a fan, because they sent me a package with some of their new brands and products to test and try out ; )

Here are just a few items that I personally selected from that package to share in a TV segment.

Shopping Links for brands shown:

Carol’s Daughter (shown was the Monoi hair collection)   Pretend Tan  (self-tanner)     Jurlique  (skincare)      Cargo Cosmetics  (makeup)

Where are you favourite places to shop?

Gotta a link so I can check it out?

Ciao Bellas,

Until Next Time ~ Melody xo
