Nothing But Rock! The Bear 106.9 Billboards ~BTS Video~

One of the hottest commercial shoots in the city is for The Bear 106.9 radio stations billboards, and it was shot again by Derrick Rice and the exceptional talents at Union Eleven Studio. Check out the BTS (Behind the Scenes) video and peek into what happens on set,  also captured by Union Eleven.

When I say hot, I mean it on so many levels…a hot morning in July (amen for studio A/C) to the talented team of experts of photographers, bbandm media+advertising, hair/makeup team of Fiorella, Stephane and Kait from Rinaldo Hair Designers and Spa (uber popular downtown location, that I LOVE getting to work with) and the professionalism of the six MIM models.

It was a great morning, even if Kait and I did have to turn the bathroom into our makeup dept. LOL  That’s the fun of behind the scenes. Check it out!

The end results…traffic stopping ; ) Especially when it’s on a roadside billboard!

I still get a kick out of seeing the billboards around the city.

Ciao, Until Next Time

~Models International Management Promo Video

Models International Management brought me in to work some makeup magic for their new promo video created by One Market Media.  Due to locations and schedules, my makeup chair wasn’t always at the same place at the same time as filming. Just goes to show you that ‘stuff’ can get done with communication and each team player doing their professional part. Pretty sure everyone is pleased with the outcome of the video : )

Scenes were taped over several days during about a 2 week period and in separate locations. There were a few things to consider from my makeup artist point of view:  from looks that demanded specialty makeup (check out the pool scene) as well as the weather which was hot and humid.  See them below.

My makeup work is  ’scene’  -pun intended ; ) here:

1) Sitting in the Tree, walking through the Garden and Ruins Scene.

~Heather D.   I achieved her ethereal complexion with the help of Make Up For Ever HD Foundation, even for daily use that foundation looks fab! The rest of the makeup was kept soft, just enough to enhance her features but not overtake them. Her eyebrows were softly filled in only where needed so they didn’t look sharp or filled in. Eyes are lined with a dark brown on the upper lash line to define the shape and lash line, while a soft copper shimmer shadow on the lids is used to play up the natural color of her eyes. A gentle  peach  powder blush is dusted on the cheeks and the lips were a sheer peachy/coral gloss to keep all the color I used in the same tones.

2) Pool Scene

Ah..the pool scene, doesn’t Heather look AMAZING coming out of the water? What a shot One Market Media captured there. The only brand that I could trust to completely to stand up to this scene with its waterproof capabilities and look great on film, was the Aqua Collection from MakeUpForEver.   Aqua Creams were used for the eyes & cheeks. Aqua Smoky Lash waterproof mascara which is amazing to build up volume! While the new Aqua Lip Rouge was put to the test ; ) That makeup didn’t budge, smudge or melt!!!

3) The Night Street Scene

Gave the girls dark eyes but kept it simple so you have the rocker chic edge to it, but allows for the models own beauty to still stand out.

My Top 3 Recommended Beauty Devices/Tria & Clarisonic

Hello Gorgeous Gals,

Here are my Top 3 picks for Beauty Devices worth owning that I shared on a recent visit to Rogers Daytime TV.

Part of the silly intro to me, and me saying I was afraid I would forget things was because for that show I was also given the fab opportunity to be more than just a beauty expert.  I was invited to be the guest co-host with Derick, so also had to remember the guests and their subjects plus my own. Guess it went well ; ) because I’ll be baaaack to guest co-host the show for this Monday June 25th.

Anyways on to the Best Beauty Devices….watch away Gorgeous Gals

Video for $plurge or $ave? ~ Summer Beauty Essentials

Hello Gorgeous Gals,

Here is the CTV Morning Live TV segment that features yesterdays blog post items.

I confessed admitted to a personal choice in the video after saying I wouldn’t (I’d squeal under a bright light in a cold interrogation room LOL)

So here’s the rest of my picks:

  • Clarins Suncare ($34 CAD)for myself  but I would take the L’Oreal Ombrelle ($13.97 CAD) for the kids, as you use way to much every summer to pay top dollar for it ; )
  • Guerlain Terracotta 4 Seasons Bronzer Blew the budget on this one ($82 CAD) but the matte finish and multi-shades truly made it an ‘adjustable’ (use light or dark shades depending on season/level of existing tan) year round item. You can always add a hi-lighter on top to give a subtle shimmer.
  • L’Oreal Voluminous waterproof, I don’t like to pay high prices for mascara and for an item that I may use a handful of times during the summer, that would be $$ down the drain! It’s was under $7 CAD.
  • Maybelline Baby Lips, feels great on, love the subtle tint and can’t beat SPF 20, the price (under $7 CAD)  made it easy to own several shades and always have one on hand.

TRIA Skin Perfecting Blue Light ~ A highly effective acne treatment

PIMPLES, ZITS, ACNE, BLEMISHES, SPOTS, BLACKHEADS, WHITEHEADS.

What a headline and not a pretty topic.  As a makeup artist, it’s the #1 skin issue I work with and it’s not just for teens, I have a high number of adult clients that deal with it too! In some cases, acne can be downright emotional, affecting confidence levels and self-esteem.

It’s my job and mission as a makeup artist,  to conceal it and disguise the scarring and discoloration. Makeup can really help restore confidence and comfort to get through the day. However, when the makeup is removed there is the same skin underneath that needs help. If you are in a constant state of frustration due to trial and experiment after another of harsh products and methods of treating acne and breakouts, then I think you should take a look at this…

This is my honest to goodness opinion of the TRIA Skin Perfecting Blue Light  $245CAD (I own their Laser Hair Removal device too that gives fantastic results.)  I have occasional breakouts, but it was my teen (who is less bothered by it than I am) with breakouts and patch of acne that could benefit from it and heck, why not guinea pig the teen right? Plus it would be easier to study, view and report my findings. Here’s how it went down…literally! Let’s start the 2 week  introduction:

1~Two weeks is the time frame that TRIA promotes you will see changes. My teen uses a well known acne skincare line, but only the exfoliating cleanser and 1x/day (anything more is very drying/irritating to the skin) Less gentle formulas didn’t help with the blemishes.

2~His skincare routine was not changed. He washes his face every night and pats dry. It’s so easy to use. I simply touched  the TRIA to the skin (it turns on) and gently glided it all over the face for the full 5 minutes (you can use 2x/day at 2.5 minutes) giving a little extra time to the patch of acne. It shuts off at 5 minutes.

3~Ah yes, busy lives means there were a couple of days missed using the TRIA during the 2 weeks. Yet the changes were noticeably better.  There were a few active blemishes at the start, and instead of continuing to flare up I could see them shrinking. The lone breakouts were not happening as much and even the ‘angry’ redness of the acne was reduced. The skin over all had a much better, fresher appearance.

4~There were considerable changes within the first 2 weeks, just as TRIA had promised. Definitely worth continuing. Life is busy and he forgets to use it sometimes, but you can pick it up right were you left off. The acne patch has never gone back to what he started with and continues to improve. In my humble opinion, this was the first acne ‘treatment’ that showed such great changes without the torture of experimenting with another skin care line or prescription.  Truly a superior product towards winning the fight against acne.

Until Next Time ~ Melody xo

Hair

It can be tough to find the right hair care or styling products for ourselves,  let alone for someone else. Ojon haircare is wonderful and the restorative hair treatment (included in kit shown) is quite amazing.  Try one of the starter kits from Ojon (great for travel as well)

Ojon Starter Kit (color sustain shown) $44 CAD

Bath and Body

There is an amazing selection of bath and body sets from Sephora and I couldn’t choose just one. I picked this Bliss set because its freshness reminds me of sunny Miami and I discovered Bliss Spa products in the W Hotel there. (these are the same ones provided in the guest rooms)

Bliss Spa sink side 6 pak travel/trial set $28 CAD

Skincare

Again there is so many facial skin care kits to pick from at Sephora and unless someone specifically asked for a brand/item, I don’t want to insult the recipient by offering the wrong formula (ie anti-aging) You know they love their skincare, why not get something to boost what they are using and will last a long time? My fave skincare item has to be the Clarisonic Mia facial cleansing brush, my skin loves it and can’t be without it!

Clarisonic Mia (shown) $139 CAD

Men

Yes men like grooming products too, but many of them are a tad shy to go out and look for the good stuff. Show him some TLC and pick out the products for him. Start w/ shaving products, its an easier transition for them; )

Anthony for Men 'Perfect Shave Kit' $50 CAD

The Make Up Maven or Beginner

If she is just starting in the world of makeup, the gal may not know what to try first. Then there’s the makeup maven who has almost everything in that makeup bag, so what’s a little more to try…these are great to discover something new without buying full sizes. A new favorite is waiting to be found!

Sephora Lash Stash kit $54 CAD

Glitz Glam Shimmer set $48 CAD

Tarte 'The Starlet' makeup vanity (w/ reusable jewel box) $68 CAD

The following items below can be found at Shoppers Drug Mart (quantities may vary):

Makeup brush sets are a hot commodity at anytime as they are often a better value than buying separately. Quo makes some great sets this time of year, and of all the ones they have, this Master Set of 10 brushes (w/ brush roll) had the best variety to work with and at $7/per brush, a steal!

Quo Brushes 'Master Set' 10pcs. $70 CAD

These Stila lip glazes are a great addition to any makeup bag. You could also separate the collection to make multiple gifts. Perfect for stocking stuffers and even the office secret Santa exchange.

Stila Lipglaze collection 8pcs. $33 CAD

Men

Skincare can be one of the toughest areas to get them convinced on the importance of it…just buy it for them and tell them how to use it. It make take a few tries to become second nature for them. Biotherm also has a wonderful men’s skincare selection year round.

Biotherm Homme shown AquaPower $54 CAD (other types available)

Fragrances

This can be one of the toughest beauty items to pick at anytime. Fragrances smell differently on each of us and what I like you may not and so on. Shoppers Drug Mart makes these Vivaboxes every year. What a great way to shop for a new scent. There are several miniature fragrances in each box to try at their leisure AND it includes a certificate for a large size of the one they liked the most.

Fragrance 'Vivaboxes' $95 CAD (white-ladies, men-black)

Insider tip: some gift & limited edition sets begin to arrive in-store by late October/early November.

Happy Shopping!
